Hemlock and Silver

Anja is a healer, and as part of that passion, she studies poisons and their antidotes, which leads to the king entreating her to save his younger daughter, Princess Snow, who is suffering from a mysterious illness. As Anja observes Snow and her environment, she discovers that it may not actually be poison, as suspected, when a magic mirror leads to an alternate world that reveals sinister truths about the tragedy of the elder princess’s death at the hands of the queen. Relying on her own knowledge, a growing relationship with a bodyguard, and a narcissistic talking cat, Anja must find a way to save not only Princess Snow but the world as they know it. For one who has relied so long on science to solve problems, how can Anja deal with magic—a force she has no experience with? Slow pacing at the start of the book eventually gives way to dramatic action and unexpected twists.
